 Journalism, Ethics and Diversity after Jayson Blair? 7/31/2003 - American Beach, FL - It is not easy writing this, for words fight at the will to convey a picture so clear as moments desired to resurrect...Picture this; newspapers and television days before have warned the public of Nassau County's Storm troopers state of readiness in their war against American Beach founded in the 1930's by the black visionary A.L. Lewis. The irony of this all is that on that historic evening American Beach was a calm then the storm-save the white beach i.e., Jacksonville Beach, was hosting her beach opening for the year in grand splendor parade and all, a much receptive air compared to "Jam Splash" the black student reunion staged just weeks earlier. A few days after the media broadcasted Nassau County's plans to declare the evening of April 28th, an evening of battle, the president of American Beach Homeowners met covertly with the Storm troopers to ok the actions taken the evening of April 28, 1996. There were reports of her speaking of the war on 12 News, which is strange because she was nowhere near the war zone that night. Along that same line 12 News also has a cameraman residing at American Beach-when he appeared to speak with me at the battle sight off duty the short but nasty battle was over, trust, so all this seems like the result of homeowners trying to keep young black beach goers off their property. At the same time, Amelia Island Plantation's trying to take the beach and close it down-one must ask is there an invisible thread which binds the three...  It is getting dark now, the "no noise law" is at full effect, for there is no music in the parking lot this evening, save a few Rastafari held a drumming rite as the police with dogs charged into the crowd of thousands provoking arrest in fear of the dogs hundreds fell stampeding the other. By this time meat pits are being smoldered and red coals at night smoke covering the area as police yell, bottles flying people crying, dogs and police holding ones down with sticks and knees, others fighting, the war is on, instigated by the police for no other reason but they had this evening planned even before. Many arrests were made-in order for ones to get an understanding and clear picture ones must go back to the sixties and you will see this historic night at American Beach, April 28, 1996-a great part in history which might never be remembered nor looked into... this is why I write to spark interest in this great issue at American Beach-vs.-Amelia Island Plantation, Boss Hog and all his dogs etc., I tell you the powers which be will answer to an even higher power for I will fast and pray to this... American Beach has been strategically taken, plan was to cause black beachgoers not to frequent American Beach as we can see from above police harassment brought this covert operation to fruition. There are operatives at both awares and unawares, let us look at the attitude of the grand daughter of the founder of American Beach, MaVynee Oshun Betsch who has been interviewed by all the major news and magazines last major one to date is "Smithsonian" Magazine an interview was scheduled with UNN save MaVynee Betsch reneged. We here in the community know a different "Beach Lady" from the picture the media has painted of her. She is an opportunist with a fetish for publicity and the media uses her illness. Each interview she has sought me out to inform me. Now what type person would do this? Why would she want ME to KNOW she was going to be in the papers? She has a huge ego and some type way I am important to her or is it I make her feel important but I will not run her down for an interview she serves me no purpose. I am satisfied to present this point of view... The fall of American Beach is in part due to the residents of American Beach case and point...MaVynee Betsch gave away her inheritance to various nature organizations, Green Peace, Save the Whales, etc. bought Robert Powell, author of North American Field Guide to Butterflies an exquisite home. Now she is homeless and pretends to be fighting for the survival of American Beach, this is very hypocritical when money she gave away could have been used for this purpose and it was her family, her cousins who sold American Beach in the beginning. The story of American Beach is truly a grand saga, the reason we reveal this point of view is due to the erratic demeanor. She speaks to us when it is convenient, she has a high and mighty attitude but I view her as becoming senile and mentally disturbed. At any rate, this is inside information, in the year 1982 while composing my first professional poetic works I lived with The Beach Lady in the infamous Afro-American Life Insurance Building, Union Street, Jacksonville, Florida where we lived a very eccentric lifestyle. She offered an Indian ritual, the slicing of the wrist requesting to be bonded as one blood but I refused. The sinister old woman charmed a young poet as I was written into an esoteric work of hers an opera she was writing. This is a sinister side of The Beach Lady not known to the public but many children think she is a witch which I know to be true. After each meal as if an animal she would lick my plate, I was under the spell of The Beach Lady we went to many functions together she published my book "Of Prose and Cons." In the year 1985, I moved away from Jacksonville and returned in 1992 where in 1993, moving to American Beach not aware of The Beach Lady living here, destiny? The beach side of the story I did not know, there were many letters in the early 80's written to me from The Beach Lady having foresight she disposed of them but the letters I wrote her are published in Holy Book of Wonder. The reason I tell this story now for in her mind me and my family are peasants and she plays this role of the debutante only made possible by me, one of the only few men she has intimately known, which lets me know she has never cared for me but I will not play this game created by the media. It is said, "wisdom is found in the simplest places in a nick of time" we have a problem here, we are not free, its crazy that some of the people think that they are free. Black man listen we can overcome the crab in the barrel theory... If your mother, wife, or daughter goes into a department store and lifts some items amounting to about $100, now this store policy is to persecute to the fullest extent of the law concerning such matters. I went to such a man after speaking with the new manager of Bealls Department Store the manager could not give me any information so the store security person spoke with me saying that his store's policy is to persecute to the fullest extent of the law. I asked him what if his mother, wife or sister were apprehended for such a crime he replied that he would and has turned his friends in etc., have them locked up, he said he knew his mother would not do such a thing but first he said he would even have his mother locked up, he loved his job. I went to the store to reason with the manager to allow one to pay for the items taken save the store had recovered their goods yet I was willing to pay them. The security person whose name is Brian Clifton security, Bealls Corporation, Fernandina Beach Florida, said that whenever they have started an action their policy was not to stop it. According to their company profile Bealls Inc is a privately owned company with annual sales exceeding one half billion dollars. Now I ask you is it really necessary for a billion dollar company to prosecute to the fullest for a petit theft of $100 bucks? I asked the young devil a question as to whether he loved his job he said he enjoyed catching people and seeing them suffer (Jayson Blair). What we need now lord is some old bible story help, there are many whites like those of yesteryear, who enjoyed a fine Sunday afternoon his wife and children all of the neighborhood go out to the center of town and enjoy a good nigger roast or lynching. They ate, laughed and enjoyed themselves they love seeing a black man suffer, we are still slaves, the white race will not have mercy on us for the orders are given from on high and the whites in the street become the long arm of the law. We are not free, watched from every camera upon highways (See FBI Targets Rastafari Journalists and Occult Institutional Racism), bi-ways, alleys, even in the privacy of our own homes, everywhere big brother is watching us, 911 did not make it any better. While we speak of unity or the lack thereof in the black community in the ways of yesterday we like to give a shout out to the local cultural mafia Kemet House, now this is a gesture the mafia would not make but I am plugging them here they would not do this for me you know what I'm sayin, not that we need them. The moral of this story is when the system lets you down we will need each other, there has always been those among us authorized by the state to indirectly control true roots? Now concerning the Blair Witch Hunt? it is all about if the nigger is qualified, "Blair" is a scapegoat for the nigger haters to kill the credibility of the blacks.
